There is a story about a man from England who traveled to India to speak with the sage Ramana Maharshi. The sage asked him, “Why have you come here?” and the man replied “I am here because i want to find out who I really am?” Maharshi then asked the man “WHO is this “I?”
The man was speechless. Then the sage smiled and said, “If you want to know who you really are, go back the way you came,” The man was stunned because he thought the sage was just telling him to go back to England. The real meaning of “Go back the way you came” is to retrace your steps through life and discard everything that is not who you really are….that you currently believe is ‘you.’
You are not your limiting beliefs.
You are not your stories.
You are not your education.
You are not your bank account.
You are not your job.
You are not your name.
You are not your thoughts.
You are not your fears.
You are not the chatter in your mind.
You are not your past.
You are not your achievements or failures.
You are not your toys.
You are not who you think you are.
You are not what others think you are.
So, who are you? “Who IS this “I?”
“If you want to know who you really are you must first discard everything that is ‘not you.’
